Breast Health

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine adopt a holisitc view of human health. A person suffering from a disease or disorder is not identified by the condition; we are not our diseases.

Breast cancer and related conditions are cause for considerable concern here in the West, with untold hundreds of thousands affected. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, while not providing a cure for these conditions, can assist in efforts at prevention and mitigation of the effects of more conventional treatment methods.

Prevention

Rates of breast cancer and related conditions are observed to be klower among Asian populations in general, although rates among Asian women living in the West, or among those who have adopted Western lifestyles, are noted to be higher than those living in Asia, or living in more traditional lifestyles. Diet, exercise, and stress are recongized as three factors that may be at work in these differing rates, with Asian women and those living more traditional lifestyles generally eating healthier diets, exercising more, and being less affected by stress than their Western or Westernized counterparts.

With appropriate nutritional guidance, and with an exercise regimen recommended in accordance with the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, there is in principle no reason why Westerners should experience higher rates of these disorders than Asian women.

While the exact role of stress in cancer and related conditions is unclear to Western medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine has long recognized the destructive and harmful effects of stress on human health, and has always worked to protect health by reducing the intensity and severity of stress and related conditions.

Mitigation

Your acupuncturist can work with you and your physician to reduce or mitigate the side-effects of more conventional Western treatments. Acupuncture in particular has been shown to be remarkably effective in reducing nausea and weight-loss resulting from certain chemo-therapy and radiation therapy regimens. Working together, our acupuncturists and your physician can help you through this most difficult time and help restore you to full and vigorous health.
